Slate Cleaning, Sealing, Repair & Restoration
Slate, a beautifully colored stone
Slate is a fine-grained rock formed by the metamorphosis of clay and shale. Of laminar construction, slate has the ability to be processed into thin sheets and still maintain serviceability, strength and rigidity. The popularity of slate makes it an easy choice for designers and homeowners.
Slate Restoration
Slate restoration is the most time consuming and the most challenging type of natural stone restoration. Not only is slate textured and uneven, but quite often it has been sealed or coated with many layers of topical finishes. The biggest challenge in restoring slate is removing those coatings chemically with old fashioned elbow grease.
Slate Cleaning
After slate stripping, we clean the entire floor, including grout lines, with pressurized, super hot water that flushes out all of the gunk trapped within the texture and crevices. The floor needs to dry for two to three days, or more.
Color Sealing and Enhancing
Color sealing the grout lines makes them look uniform, because old sealers permanently discolor grout joints. In addition, the grout joints may look blotchy after the stripping process.
BiO Tile & Grout Restoration provides the most durable sealer for slate. Available in matte and gloss finishes, our sealer will not scuff or yellow like some acrylic or epoxy sealers and can even hold up to the highest of foot traffic.
We can apply color enhancing, glossy sealer to give your slate a wow factor. This sealer also protects the slate from staining.
